Trip to BENtv and OHtv

Finally, excursion to Media companies, Bright Entertainment Network (BENtv) and Open Heavens Television (OHtv) was executed. This is the first phase of my project for this semester and it went WELL! as soon as I sat in the coach to return to Birmingham I felt like screaming “It’s done”, I didn’t though.

It didn’t happen without its hurdles. First of all I got a text from one of the 10 people to take off from here saying she was ill and couldn’t make it. I replied that that was fine and she should recover soon as I wondered how I would be able to afford the group ticket now 1 person short. I gave everyone their tickets and we were off to London. I suddenly realised I could ask 1 of the 2 people who were to meet us in Tottenham hale to come to Euston instead to make up our number. Ultimately it was good for him because he lives 5minutes from Euston station in London. Have I mentioned the stress in booking tickets and arranging travel?

My Playlist 1

A month ago I was asked if I would be interested in representing my campus society on radio. I am the president of the Nigerian Students Society and among all the numerous things I was supposed to get involved in, this one sounded pretty interesting and I was intrigued because part of the deal was I learn how to produce and maybe I could decide to be a DJ sometime (smiles then chuckles). I replied that I would and that increased my activities by 15% even though I wasn’t on the radio yet. The producer wanted to know what I would be talking about, how “strong” my accent is, how interesting I could be and what kind of music would be played. To the last question, I answered, “Nigerian music of course” with my left eyebrow raised. Then I was asked to bring 20 tracks that did not contain, swearing, curse words and anything that may offend the diverse range of listeners but would represent talent and Nigeria as a country.

KOBO KOBO

I have developed a fascination with coins
Firstly because it's a new way of transaction I'm getting used to and secondly because em...em...they are coins(?)
Anyway, now I exchange my notes for coins when my stash begins to diminish and I always find ways to use them
I remember my first few weeks when I didn't know how to identify the coins and the cashiers will take pity on my confusion and point out which was which to me and all I could think of was "they are so many kinds" 8 different ones in total; 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2

JANGOLOVA (TRIP TO ALTON TOWERS)

I met two really nice people shortly after I moved to my house. Actually one of them (Boma) helped me get the house through a man I met outside the rail station (don’t ask).

Aproko(pinko)

Today was my first day of lectures (six weeks ago)
I found it different but intriguing. I'm beginning to understand more why people send their kids to study in the UK. This is not a publicity stunt but my award leaders actually make 2 hours seem like 30 minutes. Seriously, that is interesting!

Osoufia Moments 1

If you've read some of my previous blogs you'll know that my friend with the name of a horror movie can fall prey to Osoufia moments.
She told me this incidence that will have you laughing your ribs into cracks I promise...

OYO (on your own)

Today (27/09) I realized that I was already behind in my academics, WHAT???!
I can't even ask how this happened because I'll then have to blame my academic background from Nigeria but that will mean I was inattentive during the extensive 2 week orientation process.

Ya'anga

Just stumbled on a song I don't like because i believe for that artist it was disappointing and it brought to mind my initial reaction to the way people dress up around here or should I say dress down
I have decided to write about fashion as I see it all around me
It must be because I am Nigerian that I can't seem to grasp the fashion here
I have seen all sorts and so I have come to the conclusion that there probably isn't a way to describe the way people dress up in these parts
So many people can't be wrong at the same time or can they?
It must be about the style of the individual which is no style a lot of times
Before you Judge me, I'm not a style icon but I try to include sanity in my choices and follow pattern and design rules as much as possible
I'm tempted to give up on colour all together because I seem to be among the few who consider hues and shades
I must complement the varied choices of jackets and boots

Gragra

Two interesting things have happened to me today (your today, my two weeks ago)
One; lost my apartment
Two; found a Nigerian restaurant and Malta Guinness
Got into school early enough to go tour the library as a typical Nigerian I didn't know where to swipe my card to get into the library and afterwards how to leave, phew! Thank goodness, the British is polite
Now I'm seated opposite a nigerian lady named after a horror movie
Drinking with great pleasure my Malta Guinness and smiling like one that has found great spoil and swaying to Sarah Grooves "You are Beautiful"

Jouncing!!!

Although the use of trains grow on you, there are moments of panic
When you think you missed your train or you got on the wrong train or got off at the wrong stop
I haven't had any of this drama but as I listen to MI's "Action Film" I remember 2 incidences I'll like to call "jouncing"
Firstly, my friend and I have been staying at Wolverhampton pending when our place is ready
That means trains and trekking

True Talk

Sitting in a train 20mins from my stop
Listening to Sarah Bareilles go on about miles and eyeing the large White man adjacent from me
He seems engrossed in his crossword and everything around me, just not me
I look at my hands and realize although I'm a nicely blend milk chocolate I'm just not white or at least biege

Johnny Just Come (JJC)

Preparing to leave Nigeria was not as hectic as it would have been for a first timer but I have two sisters schooling in the US so it was just a repeat of what their list contained plus plenty advice on the erratic weather of the UK
The day before my trip I asked one of my closest friends in a slight panic what I was doing
